LS4A Criticizes House Vote to Reinstate Solar Tariffs
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Local Solar for All (LS4A), a coalition dedicated to empowering American energy consumers through clean energy solutions, criticized last week’s House vote to reinstate import tariffs on solar imports from four Southeast Asian countries. Last year, President Biden issued an executive order to pause these solar tariffs for two years.
Robin Dutta, campaign director for LS4A, issued the following statement:
“Access is the major barrier to local solar energy adoption, especially in economically challenged areas. If local solar is to be truly accessible for all, then Congress needs to address existing barriers instead of standing up new ones. The Auxin solar tariffs are bad policy, and President Biden's decision to issue a 2-year reprieve last year was a much-needed market correction.
We disagree with the House of Representatives action to support this bad tariff policy. We urge the Senate to recognize that these tariffs will make it harder for their constituents to lower their energy bills, and put up further roadblocks for their states to lower the cost of the electric grid for all communities.
To secure America’s energy future, we need a reliable energy system with ready access to clean, renewable local solar and battery storage technology. Mainstream local solar adoption is part of the lowest cost path to achieving 100% clean energy, and reducing total grid costs. We thank the Biden Administration for its continued commitment to expand solar deployment to enhance access to locally-generated clean energy for all.”
