Local Solar Advocates Call for Boosting Distributed Solar and Energy Storage to Provide Energy Security

As the war in Ukraine places a spotlight on the world’s vulnerability to fossil fuel supply and price volatility, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works held a hearing today on American energy security. The hearing focused on the need for investments and innovation in alternatives to oil and gas, emphasizing the role they can play in making the U.S., and the international community, more secure.

Against this backdrop, Local Solar for All–a coalition of companies and organizations committed to delivering on the promise of local solar and storage–called on Congress and the Biden-Harris Administration to rapidly transition the nation to clean energy

Local Solar For All Director, Phyllis Cuttino issued the following statement.

“The war in Ukraine, and its impact on energy supplies and prices, provides a stark reminder of the urgent need to transition to clean and distributed energy options that are resilient to disruption by geopolitical conflict or price shocks.

We must rapidly grow our deployment of large and local clean renewable energy and   storage to meet our electricity needs, address the climate crisis, lower energy costs for consumers, particularly low and middle income Americans, and enhance our national security. Generating our nation’s power entirely with renewable energy sources like the sun and the wind that have no ongoing fuel costs, would avoid the more than $100 billion spent each and every year on fossil fuels to generate electricity.

That’s why we are calling on the President and Congress to act quickly on measures to accelerate the deployment of clean and renewable energy.”
