Local Solar For All Applauds Climate Provisions in The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Local Solar for All, a coalition dedicated to expanding access to local solar and battery-generated power, applauded Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D., N.Y.) efforts to move The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 forward, which aims to address climate, healthcare and tax policies. The coalition released the following statement in support of the legislation:
“The news out of the United States Senate is nothing short of historic and represents the most significant federal clean energy policy advancement to date. The Inflation Reduction Act makes unprecedented investments in clean energy deployment and manufacturing and will cement certainty for an industry that produces, clean, reliable, affordable energy made right here at home.
For solar energy, and distributed solar in particular, this legislation will boost domestic manufacturing needed to bring accessible solar energy to every community in the United States. It will also create new manufacturing jobs and help expand economic opportunity for workers in the solar industry. However, the package does not include other provisions including direct pay proposals that would have provided a needed boost to installers and other workers. Additionally, while providing $369 billion for climate change and clean energy investments, the Inflation Reduction Act will drive down inflation, especially in energy prices, and reduce the federal deficit by $300 billion.
Overall, the bill is a win for consumers, a win for clean energy workers, a win for our economy, a win for environmental justice, and a win for the climate. The Senate should move swiftly to approve the Inflation Reduction Act and the House should quickly follow. We commend President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for staying at the negotiating table and for remaining steadfast in working to fulfill the President’s commitments to expanding clean energy and tackling the climate crisis.”
